Come along to our one day interactive conference to find out more about the pioneering interdisciplinary projects already underway at the University of Southampton and join the discussion about whether digital technologies will change our lives.
Technology sceptic and author Andrew Keen will provoke debate in his keynote address by predicting future developments and challenging assumptions that the Internet is always a force for good.
Southampton’s Professor Dame Wendy Hall will explain how businesses and researchers can make effective use of open and big data sets through the Web Observatory.
After lunch explore your own areas of interest through workshops, demonstrations and one-to-one networking with experts in a wide range of digital technologies.

10.15am Keynote speaker Andrew Keen draws upon key themes from his new book Digital Vertigo to examine the astounding growth of social media. He counters the utopian vision of excited gurus with sober, reality-based queries and judgments.

11.30am The Web Observatory and its benefits for partner businesses and researchers. Wendy Hall, Kieron O’Hara and colleagues will demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of ‘big data’ and ‘open data’
